SEVEN Papua New Guinean youths left for Japan yesterday for the 2015 International Youth Development Exchange programme.

The youths were selected from the fields of government, academia, journalism and sports.

The seven are: Ruben Enoch (Department of Foreign Affairs), Tanya Talopa (University of Goroka), Hannah Ilave (PNG Olympic Committee), Techkla Gunga (EMTV), Sinivar Kasimani (Kundu 2), Anthony Pryke (PNG Olympic Committee) and Julianna Mohe (University of Papua New Guinea).

The programme is organised by the government of Japan, through the cabinet office of Japan under the International Youth Development Exchange programme for 2015.

The purpose of the programme is to promote mutual friendship and understanding between Japanese youths and those from other countries.

Youths from 14 countries have been invited to the programme and participants are expected to share the knowledge and information gained with their organisations in their respective countries upon their return.

The participants will take part in various activities, including the International Youth Conference, visits to educational institutions, cultural and industrial sites. They will also live with local Japanese families as part of the programme to observe the Japanese lifestyle.

The embassy of Japan in PNG has organised various Japanese cultural events, including the visit of the Japanese judo instructors and the donation of 100 judo uniforms to the PNG Judo Federation this month.

These events commemorated the 40th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Japan and Papua New Guinea.
