SEVEN Papua New Guinean youths who went to Japan for the International Youth Development Exchange Programme 2015, have returned with a better understanding of the effects of globalisation.

Team leader and Department of Foreign Affairs representative Reuben Enoch said the main issue was on the impacts of globalisation on education, culture and the environment.

“Countries that sent representatives were the Dominican Republic, Mozambique, Cambodia, Egypt, Republic of Latvia, Japan and PNG,” he said.

“These countries have seen and felt the impacts of globalisation on their education system, culture and environment.

“It was an opportunity to share experiences and discuss the ways in which each country can stand up to the advantages and disadvantages of globalisation with the best approach.”

Enoch said his team learnt how countries like Japan which had been in isolation from outside world for over 100 years coped with globalisation through its open-door policy.

He said common issues identified were cultural clashes, effects of climate change on the environment and adapting to different education systems and Japan trying to learn English.

“Japan is well organised and has one of the hard working people in the world,” he said.

“They take time management seriously and that is why the country is advanced.”
