NATIONAL Youth Commissioner Johnson Hebe is urging all youths to spend the festive season reflecting on how they can change their behaviour for the better next year.
He said the participation of youths in the development of a country was crucial and Papua New Guinea must step up to embrace the opportunity to change.
“Look back to what you have done during this year.
“Recollect, readjust and refocus your directions for a better life starting next year,” he said at a youth function last Tuesday.
He urged all youths to demonstrate leadership and responsibility in family units and communities.
He said youths had a role to play to develop the nation and they must learn new skills and ideas to do so.
Hebe said he was driven to make the comments after realising that youths had been silent in the recent political impasse the country faced.
“Situations like the political stand-off at the national level, tribal warfare or drug-related activities should not be seen as opportunities to involve in unacceptable activities but as challenges to strengthen, improve and use your potentials as leaders of tomorrow,” he said.
He asked leaders at national, provincial and district levels, non-governmental organisations and churches to support youth development programmes next year.
