MOROBE Governor Ginson Saonu has spoken highly of the partnership programme the Youth With A Mission (Ywam) Medical Ships of Australia is delivering in the provision of health services to his people.
Saonu said the programme has helped deliver important medical services to many unreachable parts of Morobe and has saved many lives.
Saonu and acting administrator Sheila Harou are in Townsville and will be meeting with the Ywam
team for the next two days to discuss a partnership in health programmes.
Since 2015, Ywam Medical Ships have been deploying teams to remote areas of Morobe.
Saonu said it was an important time to discuss the future of Ywam’s work in Morobe.
He said the partnership with Ywam continues to help the province overcome isolation by transporting supplies, equipment, healthcare workers and training to some of the most hard-to-reach areas.
“It is a great encouragement to have allies that are willing to stand with you, and not only dream of what could be, but help implement it,” he said.
“What we’ve achieved over the last few years has been remarkable – but there is much more to come.”
Ywam managing director Ken Mulligan said they have a very special relationship with Morobe.
“In partnership with their provincial health team, we’ve been able to deliver over 137,000 healthcare and training services to over 19,000 patients in remote areas of Morobe province,” he stated.
Mulligan said this is also another great opportunity to help strengthen the growing links between Townsville, in Australia, and PNG.
