A GROUP of 20 members of the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) church took part in a walkathon along the Trans-National Highway to raise funds for the Center of Influence building project in Minj, Jiwaka.
Organised by the PNGforChrist (PNG4C), the walkathon was to support the project, according to programme chairman Kenneth Yamu.
He said the SDA president in the United States of America general conference Pastor Ted Wilson was expected to visit Jiwaka in April.
The total cost of the double-duplex building is around K320,000and will house people with special needs under the PNG4C programme.
The PNG4C started in 2018. Since then, the PNG Union Mission incorporated it and is now working with churches in various parts of PNG.
“There are 34 centres built to cater for VIPs at various locations in Jiwaka. A main center would coordinate all the 34 during the PNG4C programme,” he said.
They have received donations from the National AIDS Council with K25,000, DICT committed K5000 and church member Ambeng Kandakasi with K2,000.
Registration fee is K500 for each participant of the walkathon who have to be medically fit, and equipped with camping gear.
According to the concept of the programme, VIPs include people living with disabilities, the vulnerable such as widows, the homeless and orphans.
Central Papua Conference president Pastor Lonol Winnie thanked the Grandville SDA church for making it happen.
“I am pleased to support this walkathon and thank Grandville leaders for this initiative,” he said.
The walkathon began on Friday, Dec 22, from Kerema, along the Trans-National Highway to Menyama in Morobe.
