EIGHT teams are confirmed to compete in this weekend’s Port Moresby Men’s Softball Association Money Ball tournament, games coordinator Constantine Bais says.
Bais said the men’s teams include Antelopes, Pawa, Defence, Grizzlies, Kikila Cats, Eastern Aces, United Brothers and Eagles.
“We’ve now included women to participate as well so six slots were made available. Only two teams, Bears and United Sisters, have confirmed thus far,” Bais said.
“Great opportunity and exposure to play this format of the game.”
He said the four-day tournament would start on Friday and conclude with the finals on Monday at the Bisini Softball Diamonds.
“Unfortunately the inaugural winners and defending champions from Lae, Admiralty Marlins, will not be participating in this year’s edition,” Bais said.
Meanwhile, Bais said the season proper starts after this tournament.
“After this Money Ball tournament, we go straight into our season proper which will run from April to September,” he said.
“A train-on squad will also be announced after the Money Ball tournament for the 2024 Makassar Open and will be assessed throughout their season proper before a final squad is announced for the invitational tournament in Indonesia.”
