Rams claim JT Nines crown

SOUTH City Rams have outmuscled Kaugere Seagulls 16-4 to claim the JT Super Nines Cup senior men’s grand final at the Moresby South Stadium on Sunday.
Rams trainer Terry Kaupa said it was perfect ending as the boys played as a team and deserved the win.
“We believed in ourselves and not to dwell on the opposition, we played our style of football from the pool matches to the finals,” Kaupa said.
Meanwhile, Seagulls player coach Samson Pirika said they lacked momentum in the second half to match Rams’ intensity, who were dominated by players from Kone Storms who compete in the Port Moresby Rugby League.
“The opposition defenders monitored our attack. We were unlucky not to pick up (momentum) as we tried desperately to reorganise but to no avail.”
The Konedobu-based Rams remained unbeaten throughout the tournament and snapped the JT Cup with K20,000. Moresby South Rugby League club Seagulls bagged K10,000.
Last year’s champions Border Storms were knocked out of the top 16 and went on to snatch the bowl honours.
