THE European Union has welcomed Papua New Guinea’s intention to have regular talks to strengthen measures for human development.

National Planning Minister Charles Abel met the head of European External Assistance Services Gerhard Sabathil, who is in the country for a four-day visit, yesterday.

Abel said he planned to visit his office in Brussels for more political dialogue.

He said he had been planning to pursue development agendas by establishing vibrant partnerships with development partners.

Sabathil accepted and supported the idea as it would boost cooperation between the EU and PNG.

“We accept your suggestion to visit Brussels for more political dialogue,” he said.

“This will boost our important relationship and engagements of interest.

“We know PNG is a big player in the region in EU’s assistance to community and rural development.

“We would encourage political dialogue to emphasise on your part and ours to reach desired outcomes.

“This relationship must be more alive by way of these political talks.

“EU stands by your side to support your progress in development and increase the quality of life.”
