Absent parties upset Gelu

Registrar of Political Parties and Candidates Dr Alphonse Gelu is disappointed at the absence of political parties at workshops organised by the registry.
He said that yesterday when referring to the third learning and development workshop for the political party officials earlier this month.
“The main themes for the training were on party branding on the first day and campaign strategies and gender mainstreaming in political parties on the second day,” Gelu said.
He was disappointed that some of the major parties with MPs in Parliament did not attend.
“These parties were the People’s Progress Party (PPP), United Resources Party (URP) and the People’s Democratic Movement (PDM),” Gelu said.
“URP and PDM are two political parties that have not attended any of the workshops since the first workshop in 2016, making the executives totally unaware of what were offered in the workshops.
Gelu called on parliamentary leaders to ensure that their executives must attend the workshops “instead of enjoying the benefits the executives are receiving in terms of their salaries and monthly stipends and even the funding from Central Fund”.
“PPP, on the other hand, had a programme in terms of conducting its awareness in the Highlands but   did not inform the registry about this,” he said.
“It would be more proper for the party to inform the registry on its activities and the dates when the activities will take place.
“The (PPP) general secretary did not attend the last two workshops,” Gelu said.
