The National Executive Council has approved a K150 million Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (Wash) programme for Water PNG that will be supported by World Bank and the Department of Finance and Treasury.
Chief operation officer for Water PNG Billy Imar announced that in Madang last Friday during the closure of training on water and wastewater.
Imar said the Wash programme would enable Water PNG to connect water to all districts and LLGs and to villages as captured in Water PNG’s 2030 vision.
“We continue to support the government vision and its long-term development to reach out to the vast population in the district communities through the provision of safe water and sanitation services under the Wash programme,” he said.
Meanwhile, Water PNG has started its usual monthly water disconnection operation in the Newtown suburb in Madang.
More than 20 families have had their water disconnected last week and many more would be disconnected this week.
Water PNG centre manager Patrick Jinimbo said the disconnection was done to selected houses and was part of the usual monthly operation.
