Address law, order issues in Wewak

Letters

WEWAK is sinking into a lawless black hole while its leaders are ignorant. Killings are becoming a normal daily routine.
The law enforcers are playing double standards by making quick money from the situation which is evident.
Many complainants are asked by the police to settle issues outside of court if they cannot pay them to attend.
Some are paid off by criminals.
Are our police officers law enforcers or mediators?
Governor Allan Bird and the Wewak MP Kevin Isifu should act now or every serious crime will be settled with jungle justice.
Revamp the police here..
They are fast becoming businessmen by exploiting offenders, victims and Asians.
They are ignoring their duty to serve the people of East Sepik.
I ask the leaders to get their statistics from the accident and emergency unit at Boram Hospital to understand this issue. Those locked up in the police cells and committed to court are the ones who cannot afford to pay their way out.
The district court magistrates here have compromised their positions as well.
New magistrates should be brought in because criminals are paying their way out of justice.
Our leaders should act before this gets out of hand.
I believe we have a governor who has a very strong character with grounded values which he should utilise now.
The Wewak residents want the governor to start by bringing in a no-nonsense provincial police commander.

  • All provincial hospitals should compare statistics to see which hospital figures are soaring.
Boram Hospital in Wewak should not be surprised if their figures top the list.
Courts are secondary avenues to settle matters because it takes too long, The Sepik way is better, good luck,,,,
