The benefit of a partnership in education with Indonesia is good for Morobe, provincial education adviser Keith Jiram says.
He said the province needed to look at possibilities to partner with neighbouring countries for the future of students.
He said this last week during a meeting between the Indonesian Embassy education and cultural attaché Achmad Tavip Syah, social sector programme advisers and managers of technical vocational education and training (Tvet) schools in the province.
“Through the partnership we want to see how best we can raise the education standard,” Jiram said.
“We prioritise Tvet because it is always given the least support over the years.
“The benefits of the partnership include the teacher attachment programme.”
Jiram said a teacher, Fred Ogia, would be teaching Bahasa at Lae Secondary School. “We will lead a team of eight vocational managers to visit Indonesia in September, during the term three break,” he said.
“This is the start of the programme to build an opportunity for the managers to see for themselves how vocational technical schools in Indonesia teach vocational lessons.”
Jiram said the main reason for having the partnership was that Tvet had not been given enough prominence over the years.
“Tvet employs and teaches technical, vocational and life skills that enhance living standards,” he said.
“I’m sure this move will further enhance the graduates of this programme so that they can add value to the abundant resources we have in the province.
“This is the start and we will see how we can expand this programme to include other social sectors.
“We will further improve this programme by way of reports and submissions to the authorities to take it on from here.
“We value this partnership as it is a possibility to enhance other needs as well.”
Jiram recommended that the partnership programme be improved by the administration for further discussions with the Indonesian Embassy.
“We must try and explore further, and under the education reform in the province, make it a government to government programme,” he said.
