THE start of Air Niugini’s Dash 8 service to Tokua Airport in East New Britain has been deferred to next month because of bad weather.
The National Airports Corporation (NAC) said maintenance work on the airport, which was to have started last month, had now been delayed to Mar 7.
Air Niugini will continue its normal Fokker aircraft flights to Rabaul until March 7.
The start of work on the airport runway cannot start because of continual heavy rain.
Air Niugini advised earlier this week that its services to Tokua Airport would be temporarily operated by Dash 8 aircraft instead of Fokker bec ause of urgent maintenance work on the runway.
Once the airport work starts, Air Niugini will be operating Dash 8s to Rabaul instead of Fokker aircraft.
