ENFORCER Elsie Albert put in a contender for the tackle of the season with a crunching shot on Titans winger Karina Brown in the Dragons’ 24-18 win over Gold Coast in the National Rugby League Women’s semifinals yesterday.
During the first half with the Dragons leading by 10, the Papua New Guinea Orchids skipper kept her side’s momentum going when she got down low to produce a perfectly timed tackle to the mid-section of Brown.
It was a major moment in the game that clearly rattled the Titans, who turned the ball over courtesy of an intercept just moments after.
“What a tackle,” Peter Psaltis said in commentary for Nine.
“What a shot.
“Goodness me, everyone at the ground felt that one.”
Former NRLW star Ruan Sims said: “Elsie Albert, right around the lower ribs there.
“What a beautiful tackle.
“You can always tell when she’s back out on the field.”
The Dragons made it through to the NRLW grand final by holding off the Titans with a 24-18 win at Leichhardt Oval in Sydney.
St George appeared destined to run away with a comfortable win before the Titans notched two late tries in the final five minutes to cut the deficit to just six points.
A menace up the middle all season, Albert will make her first grand final appearance when the Dragons meet the Sydney Roosters in the grand final at Moreton Daily Stadium, Queensland, on Sunday (1.30pm kick-off). – WWOS
