Apec driver yet to be paid

Letters

I AM proud to serve the Papua New Guinea Government and to do my duty professionally and successfully without failure.
I was recruited by the Apec organising committee to work as a driver and I was assigned to drive very important guests who attended the Apec Leaders’ Summit from Nov 12-18.
I was with the organising committee from Nov 2-21.
All the efforts and the hard work – including security, driving, liaison and other support work – were put together to get the job done.
Every job is done and completed successfully when there is good team work.
However, I am still waiting to be paid for the great job that I did for the country.
I believe that my colleagues who worked for the Apec organising committee have also not been paid.
I am wondering why the pay for the security personnel was processed quickly without delay.
How about people like me who also played an important role during the Apec event.
Can someone in a higher office or Parliament explain why there has been a holdup in our pay and who should be blamed for the delay?
Papua New Guinea shocked the world when our security personnel stormed and ransacked the Parliament building to demand that their allowances be paid immediately.
Do we want a repeat of that?
Do we need more stories like that in the media?
Whoever is responsible should make sure we get paid before we go to the media.
