Assist Vanimo Secondary School

Letters

LAST week was hectic throughout the country as teachers, students and parents were busy preparing for the academic year.
For Vanimo Secondary School, registration and enrolment progressed smoothly without major hiccups.
Formal classes will start this week; however, there are certain issues that needs addressing.
Vanimo Secondary School is a developing school.
It is West Sepik’s premier institution due to the fact that the school accommodates students from all districts: Vanimo-Green, Nuku, Aitape-Lumi and Telefomin.
The tuition fee free (TFF) education policy has enabled an increase in enrolment over the years putting an enormous strain on existing facilities such as dormitories.
The school relies on parental component, subsidy from the Government and from time to time, support from patron, Vanimo-Green MP and Opposition leader Belden Namah for its daily operations.
There is an abundance of school land lying idle that needs to be utilised.
In line with its mission and vision, the school intends to be a leader in delivering quality education to the children of West Sepik.
I urge MPs in West Sepik to start investing in the school through funding so that Vanimo Secondary School can continue to grow and meet the rising demand.
It saddens me to see no backing from the districts each year despite mass enrolments.
We are willing to work with the leaders if they can help the school.
Where there is political will, there is a way.
