Buang High School needs Govt’s help

Letters

THE Government has been ignorant since the establishment of Buang High School in Morobe, leaving it to fend for itself in terms of infrastructure.
Eight teaching positions were created by the Education Department for the school but so far, there are only six teachers here at the Buang High School.
Of the six, three are accommodated on campus while the other three are living in rental houses provided by the community and rented by the school.
So from the school’s operational funds, we spend K2,100 per month on rent.
That is about K25,200 per year for accommodation.
Accommodation is a problem for the school.
We need five more staff houses.
The school is prioritising building of proper infrastructures for its staff and students but it cannot do much.
Several projects have been paid for by the Morobe government but they are incomplete.
Most of the contracts for Buang High School were issued to contactors who came and put up sub-standard buildings.
This is a waste of government funding and the authorities in the district should learn from these mistakes.
Transportation is another problem that is being faced by the school.
Our school truck is now four years old and we have spent around K40,000 on maintenance.
The truck is a liability, not an asset anymore.
Currently, the school is in need of two fully-kitted dormitories, an administration block and a multi-purpose hall.
Buang High School graduated its third batch of Grade 10 students (78) last year. It is located in the Buang local level government area in Bulolo, Morobe.
