Australian military first to respond instead of PNGDF

THE military, in most countries, is usually the first to respond to man-made or natural disasters.
The military is trained to respond, not only in times of conflict, but also in other military operations other than war.
PNG has had its fair share of natural disasters after the cessation of hostilities in Bougainville.
One would have thought that the PNGDF would have been prepared to carry disaster operations.
But no!
It looks lost while the Australian military is always the first to respond to any disaster that hit PNG.
What a shame.
It is time to seriously review whether we really need a defence force that is ill-disciplined, easily manipulated by politicians and consuming critical state resources.
NCD residents ought to take a drive to the PNGDF headquarters on a Friday night and see the kind of activities the personnel are up to.
I propose that the government disband the PNGDF and make it a para-military force such as in Vanuatu.
