ACTIVITIES to raise awareness on women’s cancer will be stepped up this month, according to the managing director of the Pacific MMI Insurance, Wayne Dorgan.

He said the company had been supporting the cancer month (October) by sponsoring the pink ribbon brunch for the 11th year.

It will be held on Oct 28 in Port Moresby.

He said the aim was raise funds to support the awareness, educate and support women affected by cancer, and their families.

“However, more support is also needed from their partners to save the lives of women dying from this preventable disease,” Dorgan said.

Chief executive officer of PNG Cancer Foundation Dadi Toka Jnr said the funds raised would go towards educating the people on how to protect their families from cancer, provide free screening and workshops around the country.

They will work with partner organisations to improve cancer control in the country.

He thanked the Pacific MMI Insurance for supporting the work on cancer.

He said statistics from the PNG Institute of Medical Research showed that one in 10 deaths were cancer-related.
