THE Yambo health centre in Nawaeb, Morobe, has been refurbished by BSP Financial Group Ltd at a cost of K30,000. The project also saw the installation of a solar kit for the centre. A team from BSP Lae visited the village on May 23 to officially open the health centre that serves over 2,000 people from Yambo and nearby villages along the coast. This community project was delivered by the branch. Local women’s representative, Tuyon Owingao, of Yambo village, said women in the area had struggled to get adequate medical assistance, particularly during child birth. “This service will make it easier for us now,” she said. “Some of us who are midwives have no proper medical gear; we normally rely on traditional medicines and knowledge to assist pregnant mothers. “Today, we are fortunate and thank BSP for giving us this aid post.”
BSP said in a statement that the Wampar health centre that serviced Nadzab and surrounding areas recently had water supply connected to the facility and refurbishment work done by BSP Corporate banking and BSP finance teams in Lae. This has assisted the health centre with the provision of a safe clean water to the clinic, the TB ward, the Covid-19 facility and ablution blocks.“Financial literacy is another service we provide to the communities that we operate in,” BSP Group general manager for retail Daniel Faunt said. “We don’t just do banking in these areas. “We deliver community projects to improve the lives of the people we serve. “The recent refurbishment of a health centre at Yambo village in Nawaeb is part of the many projects we have delivered since 2009.”
