BASKETBALL Papua New Guinea (BPNG) will be hosting its inaugural three-on-three (3×3) championship challenge at the Sir John Guise Stadium later this month.
“The 3×3 challenge is our first 3×3 event for 2020 and 2021,”BPNG president Karo Lelai said.
She said it would be a short season with just 22 senior teams taking part but they would be bringing in junior teams later on.
Games will be from 5pm to 9pm on Nov 22 and continue over the next three Sundays.
The team registration fee is K250 and this amount can be paid on the day of the playoffs.
“Registration is open to everyone in PNG regardless of your nationality, because this will provide you a pathway to go on to the next level,” Lelai said.
“You can use this as a platform to continue on to the international level,” she said.
“If you go online to the website 3x3planet.com, there will be clear explanations there to guide you.
“The online registration is free and you can check Fiba 3×3 profile online at the 3x3planet.com or can contact BPNG president for more information on 768 53 281.
“When you have a 3×3 profile you can play 3×3 tournaments around the world and keep track of your own progress.”
Lelai said they would like to see more of the expatriate community get involve and interact with the local communities.
The 3×3 challenge is being used under the BPNG Hoops for Health programme which is funded by the Australian government to promote the sport in the country.
BPNG also has plans to expand its programmes to promote the sport to other centres of the country.
