HEAVY rain and strong winds last weekend damaged some power lines disrupting electricity supply to some parts of Port Moresby, says acting PNG Power managing director Carolyn Blacklock.
Blacklock told The National that the eastern part of the city experienced the effect of the storm early yesterday morning causing blackouts.
“There was a city wide impact from the storm at 3.30am today (yesterday) and power was restored by 5.30am,” she said.
“A number of supply lines were affected by the weather causing outages. With the (bad) weather continuing, it’s an ongoing job for our teams.”
She said a PNG Power team had been working throughout the weekend to ensure power was resorted to areas affected.
According to information from the PPL call centre, there was a “trip” in the Boroko Feeder Six which affected Korobosea, East Boroko, Pari and Manu Auto Port.
Port Moresby residents experienced a rainy weekend starting on Friday afternoon and continuing onto yesterday. Blacklock said PNG Power teams had been deployed to restore power in affected areas.
PNG Power has apologised to city residents affected by the power outages.
She advised residents having power outage problems to contact the PPL call centre on 7500 800 or 7090 800.
