EIGHT people died and others injured when a truck and bus collided along the Highlands Highway at 7-Mile outside Lae city last Friday.
The truck, belonging to construction company Honibrooks Limited, collided with the 25-seater bus between 5pm and 6pm, according to people at the scene.
Lae police could not be reached for comment yesterday.
But eye-witness Adolf Amuki told The National yesterday that the truck was carrying workers home.
The bus was travelling from Lae to the Miles area.
“Many of the passengers were injured,” he said.
“Bodies of the dead and the injured were laid on the side of the road.
“An ambulance and Guard Dog vehicle transported them to the hospital.”
Among the dead was University of PNG student Isaac Sembon, from East Sepik, and construction engineer Dorothy Misikaram.
The accident is the second fatal accident on the Lae-Nadzab stretch of the highway this month.
Two weeks ago, a bus travelling from Madang to Lae collided with a vehicle at Nasuapum killing eight people.
Last year, about 100 metres away from the spot, seven people died in another accident.
