Blatant and gross abuse in Western offices

Letters, Normal

I REFER to the letter “Kiunga treasury is not an ATM for public servants” (The National, Aug 25) by James Yore.
There is no doubt the treasury office in Kiunga has been abused by the incompetent public servants.
There are many outstanding claims and leave entitlements from honest working public servants such as teachers and nurses that date back to 2006 which have not been resolved yet.
Yet, public servants in the North Fly see it fit to raise travel and other unnecessary claims for themselves.
They make so-called business trips to Port Moresby almost every week.
That is why they are hardly in the office to carry out their duties.
I would like to know what business trips they are talking about as there is nothing trickling down to the grassroots and rural areas.
The officers in Kiunga of both the North Fly district and Fly River government are always not in their offices.
As a result, lower ranking public servants such as drivers are now acting like they are the bosses, further abusing the system.
We now have some divisions of both administrations being run by unqualified family members, a clear example of nepotism.
What is happening?
The governor is nowhere to be seen, there are no MPs and provincial administrator to be seen.
I call on the Ombudsman Commission to conduct an investigation into the North Fly and Fly River governments.
