PORT Moresby Rugby League Board members – secretary Jamuga Stone, treasurer Timothy Gena and junior vice president Kera Gaffin – were suspended by outgoing chairman Labi Amaiu on July 25.
Deputy chairman Samson Unagi is believed to have been issued with a suspension, with separate allegations levelled against him.
Amaiu had signed the document to confirm that before his declaration as the member for Port Moresby Northeast and was acting within his jurisdiction as chairman, club presidents revealed yesterday.
A move by all 16 affiliated PRL club presidents late last month to get answers from the board stemmed from allegations against each member.
It followed a general consensus to rebuild the fading outlook of its competition.
Amaiu had supported that call, citing the allegations and acted to allow each board member to reply.
A petition dated July 25 was presented for the board members to reply within seven days.
But the members have yet to confirm when they will reply to the presidents.
It has been no secret that the club presidents and PRL referees had continuously expressed dissatisfaction over the board’s performance and decided to take a stand once and for all.
A section of the president’s argument has been in-line with the PRL constitution on vacancies in office where each member had been absent for any three consecutive meetings
of the board.
Included in allegations against the members are poor management and abuse of position.
The revelation of these suspensions may well mean that the there is no active board in place and may give the club presidents the opportunity to vote in an interim board to run the duties and responsibilities of the board.
