THE body of a policeman who was killed in Madang on Dec 13 is still at a funeral home in Lae as there is no funding to take the body home for burial, according to police.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, Donald Yamasombi said the burial maybe next week, depending on when the money was ready.
He said the money should be ready by today or early next week for the late constable’s repatriation to his home in Eastern Highlands.
He said investigation into the killing of the policeman was continuing and the suspects had been arrested. Madang commander acting Supt Maizu Rubiang confirmed that five suspects who were investigated by police in relation to the killing were remanded at the Beon jail in Madang.
Constable Franko Horaki, 27, of Eastern Highlands, was killed at the Mildas Market behind the Jomba Police Station allegedly by a group of men from Wagol Fikus.
Madang Governor Peter Yama raised concern that the body of the policeman was still in the morgue awaiting funding from police to send the body home.
DPC Yamasombi said he had not received any report from policemen at Pogera investigating the killing of another policeman, Constable Timot Kavanamur. Constables Kavanamur and Horaki graduated from the Bomana Police College on Sept 4, 2015 and Hokari was posted to Madang and Kavanamur remained in Port Moresby.
