PEOPLE along the remote Australian-PNG-Indonesian border were happy that the PNG Defence Force Council visited their area, South Fly MP Sekie Agisa says.
Agisa said the council, comprising Defence Minister Saki Saloma, secretary John Akipe and PNGDF Commander Maj-Gen Gilbert Toropo, accompanied by him to Bula and Weam in the Morehead local level government last week.
He said while the district was not as developed as other areas, it had been receiving goods and services from Australia and Indonesia.
Agisa said people also found it difficult to come to Daru because it was far away and they had “suffered quietly”.
He said the people of Bula and Weam were also happy to provide land to build border posts to boost security along the border.
