Boromas set to claim Southern rugby title

THE Boromas look set to wrap up the Southern Conference title of the Export 15s National Provincial Rugby Union Championships when they take on the Daru Stingrays this weekend at the Sir John Guise Stadium.
The third and final round sees top side the Boromas (10 points) play minnows Daru, who have yet to win a match, after dropping their mid-week clash with the Oro Fuzzy Wuzzys 21-15. The Boromas have all the advantages in size, experience and a win looks to be a formality for the Capital Rugby Union representatives.
They should have little trouble against the men from the Western province, who despite playing some enterprising rugby have fallen victim to their own lack of polish.
Victory by whatever margin will suffice as their nearest rivals the Gaigais will not be able to make up the five-point difference even if they win well over Oro.
A win by the Stingrays, however, will see the Gaigais need to claim a bonus-point win over the Fuzzy Wuzzys to pip the Boromas and claim the Southern Conference title.
The Fuzzies are themselves on five points and if they beat the Gaigais and the Rays manage the upset of the competition leaders as well as deny them a bonus point then the men from the Northern province could find themselves the unlikely champions.
The scenario seems highly unlikely for the Rays and Fuzzies with the Boromas and Gaigais on another level.
The matches will be played at the Sir John Guise Stadium on Sunday.
Fixtures: Gaigais v Fuzzy Wuzzys 1pm; Boromas v Stingrays 3pm.
