BOUGAINVILLE Electoral Commissioner George Manu has welcomed the training undertaken by staff members as part of capacity building and development in that office.
He said the knowledge and skills taught would help the staff in their work, and urged them to make use of what they had learnt.
The training was designed and facilitated by the International Foundation for Electoral Systems, an international non-profit organisation providing technical advice and support to the commission.
Staff, including senior managers, underwent the week-long workshop covering topics relating to the conduct of elections.
Topics included the election systems, electoral cycle, electoral principles and election management bodies, international standards for election dispute resolution and complaints management, referendum, international standards for elections, electoral legal and constitutional framework, stakeholder management, electoral integrity, and election communication and awareness.
The managers later took part in strategic planning training to prepare for the commission’s five-year plan which is being drafted.
