Project to light up Gumine
GUMINE MP Nick Kuman has launched a rural electrification project to light up the district later this year. Kuman said K6.7 million for the project came from the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology of which K4.7 million was funded by the ministry and the remainder was from the district funds.

Invest in agriculture: MP
NORTH Fly MP James Donald wants Western’s Ningerum villagers to venture into agricultural activities for long-term benefits. “Agriculture can improve the lives of people in the province as it will create employment opportunities for locals and generate income for individuals and families. Do not think that the Ok Tedi mine will remain forever. In the event that it closes, agriculture will sustain you,” he said.

Work on district office starts
CONSTRUCTION work on the K8 million three-storey office complex in Wabag, Enga, started this week. MP Dr Lino Tom said the district office was located in the Yamneges government station outside Wabag town. The complex is expected to be complete and occupied before next year’s national general elections.

Show to observe ‘new normal’
THE Goroka Show Society’s annual 65th Goroka Show this year will be staged under very strict Covid-19 protocols, show chairman Keryn Hargreaves says. “The national and provincial pandemic controllers have given the go-ahead to stage the three-day show under the new normal,” she said. The show is slotted for Sept 17, 18 and 19.

School gets new classroom
DAUMAGINI Elementary School children in Rigo’s Saroa have a new classroom refurbished at a cost of K30,000. Namatanai MP and Forestry Minister Walter Schnaubelt recently opened the classroom which was funded by the National Alliance Party.

Envoy highlights investments
THE single largest sector that the Australian government, in partnership with Papua New Guinea, invests annually, is infrastructure, Australian High Commissioner Jon Philp says. He said the PNG Government had prioritised infrastructure development in the country. Philp said this included Australian investments in power, education, telecommunication, ports, water, health and roads.

Haus Guria relocating
THE Rabaul Volcanological Observatory (RVO) Haus Guria in the Rabaul, East New Britain, has a new relocation project site at Kenabot in Kokopo. RVO assistant director Ima Itikarai said the current site was at risk of being affected in future eruptions.
