THE inaugural Brothers Invitational sevens tournament is expected to be a regular feature on the rugby calendar.

The tournament commemorates the Port Moresby Brothers club which celebrates its 40-year anniversary this year.

The two-day event which starts tomorrow has attracted seven provincial teams the local talents coming from the eight clubs in the Capital Rugby Union competition. 

At the launching yesterday in Port Moresby, sponsor Kramer Ausenco, a leading engineering and project management firm announced a prize money package of K28,900 with the Cup winners to walk away with  K10,000.

The Plate winner get K7,000; the Cup-runners up take K4,000 while the women’s winner receives K2,500 and runners-up K700.

Club President George Koi said the event would showcase some of the best sevens talent in the country.

“The Brothers club is proud to commemorate it’s 40 years of existence by hosting this invitational sevens tournament in Port Moresby,” Koi said.

National champions Kimbe Rebels are in the same pool with rivals Black Orchids from Bougainville, dark horses Daru Stingrays and Nova in Pool B.

Pool A: Brothers 1, Crusaders, Goroka Silverbacks, Gulf.

Pool C: Aroma Coast, Harlequins, Morobe Hammerheads, Spartans.

Pool D: Brothers 2, Defence, Gerehu Cowboys, University.

Women’s division: Pool A – Sisters, Chiefs, Defence; Pool B – Spartans, Harlequins, Nova.
