BRUNEI is looking forward to participating in upcoming meetings and working closely with Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) economies to improve trade across borders, High Commissioner Zakaria Ahmad says.
Ahmad is the new Brunei High Commissioner to PNG and congratulated the country on chairing Apec and all the arrangements made for the year during his official welcome by Governor-General Sir Bob Dadae.
He said Brunei and PNG established formal diplomatic relations on May 1, 1984, and had worked together well in shared forums, particularly the Commonwealth.
“PNG looks forward to welcoming officials, ministers and leaders of Brunei to participate in the upcoming Apec,” Sir Bob said.
He said high-level visits between the two countries had been minimal and the Apec should encourage visits by political leaders and officials to contribute positively towards promoting goodwill, better understanding and cooperation between the two countries.
