Papua New Guinea Billiards and Snooker Association president John Chan thanked the support of the business houses, and backed the tournament to be bigger and better.
Tournament directors Danny Earles and Joe Chan said interest in the ladies event was high with last year’s runner-up Madeline Kaina being one of the first to nominate.
PNG No.1 Geua John is expected to defend her title.
Other experienced players like Helen Samuel, May Vare and 2017 champion Hane Vaieke will also be vying for the title. An expected 32 players will be participating.
In the men’s event, players from other centres like Kavieng’s Djorne and Stallone Fong, Alotau’s Robin Charles and Lae’s Arua Simoi are expected to lead the way.
A strong contingent of Port Moresby-based players, headed by defending champion Marcus Ng and players such as Roger Ng, Nathan Fong, Ralph Kaina, Willie Vaieke and John Toka, are expected to take part.
Chan said nominations were coming in fast before the closing dates and he encouraged those interested to nominate early.
