SEVENTEEN AFL Papua New Guinea development coordinators received financial literacy training from Bank South Pacific (BSP) in Port Moresby last week.
The coordinators from Port Moresby, Lae, Goroka, East New Britain and West New Britain were among 1,867 people who took part in the training delivered by BSP’s banking education team.
According to banking education manager Gabriel Nangile, financial literacy trainings assist young people to develop a savings culture.
“If you want to plan your life, plan your money first,” he said.
“Have a goal. Start setting money aside for that goal, even if it’s a small amount. At the end of the year, it will make a difference.”
Port Moresby-based player Alphonse Jambarufo, who took part in the programme, thanked BSP for the training.
“These are the basics but many times we forget to save for that goal and spend more than we earn,” he said.
The programme has been conducted by BSP since 2014 and has reached more than 160,000 people across the country.
Last year, more than 18,000 people received financial literacy training from BSP. The bank has more than 121 trainers nationwide.
