THE Kimbe Cricket Association’s T20 competition is an agent of change in West New Britain, says an official.
Association secretary Andrew Henry said the competition was aimed at promoting cricket in the province and keeping young people occupied in the sport.
“We want to bring young and talented cricketers together to expose their raw talents so that one day, they can become good players and represent our province in the national team,” he said.
“We have to make sure that we partner with our communities to ensure that youths participate meaningfully in sports and other activities that will drive them away from crime and their bad habits.
“There are many young people who take drugs, consume alcohol, create problems and commit crime but sports can help them change by diverting their attention away from these bad habits. Our competition helps youths concentrate on cricket as we aim to develop top players to represent our province.”
The competition has a division each for men and women.
Henry said the competition was gaining momentum with more teams being formed to accommodate the growing number of interested youths in the area.
Henry appealed to business houses in Kimbe to support the competition as it was for a good cause.
