Bulolo crime a problem

Letters

MY concern is on the funds from the Forestry Trust Account released by the national Government to pay for roads upgrade in Bulolo town.
This has been the result of the work of local MP Sam Basil.
We are very grateful for this long overdue sealing of roads and upgrade work in our town.
We congratulate our local MP for delivering this project to our iconic and historical township.
However, there’s still one major issue in our town which needs addressing by our MP and local level government councilors and that is crime.
Petty crime such as the snatching of mobile phones and bilum and knife attacks happen every day around Bulolo market.
Locals living around the Bulolo township cannot come into town without the fear of being harassed by drunks.
Home brew is brewed openly in homes in settlements and sold and drunk openly in public places.
I recently saw a young girl’s mobile phone snatched off her hand by a youth who then simply walked away with members of the public and market security guard looking. The young girl cried helplessly.
Sad and frustrating.
This happens a lot, especially to women and girls.
My plea and call to our MP is to do his best again and get a portion of our ‘forestry money’ from the national Government to help address the crime problem in Bulolo town.
He should fund police to patrol on foot instead of cars because it’s more effective that way. Police should target the petty crime hotspots and eradicate the home brew problem.
Please MP Sam Basil and our LLG leaders, make our town safe again for us women and mothers.
