BULOLO’s Buang High School in Morobe has resumed classes after two weeks of power outage, which affected more than 200 students and nine teachers.
A majority of the students enrolled this year were from primary schools in Buang.
Edward Pelemon, senior subject master and teacher-in-charge of enrolment and registration, confirmed the close of registration in week three.
Because of low water pressure from the school’s dam, classes were suspended in the first week which delayed the arrival of boarding students to week two.
“With the assistance from students, the support staff did a little cleanup and clearing of the school’s dam.
“The waterway was cleared and water restored,” Pelemon said.
However, the school was experiencing inconsistent power supply and had resorted to using its diesel-powered generator.
“Last year, every month, the school spends about K1,000 on fuel and oil to run the generator,” he said. The school has 20 registered students from outside of Buang doing Grade Nine.
There was no Grade 10 transfers-in for this year.
Three new teachers would arrive on campus after the completion of a duplex building.
Meanwhile, Bulolo District Development Authority had provided funding for two new buildings, a double classroom and a male dormitory.
Both structures were nearing completion.
Regarding fees, Pelemon said: “We only collected the K300 uniform fee as approved by the provincial education division.
“No other fees were collected this year.”
