AN alleged drunkard who tried to stop a bus to rob its passengers was hit by the driver on Beon Road yesterday, Madang police commander acting Supt Mazuc Rubiang says.
“The driver was returning from Beon and was at a T-junction in Sisiak 2 at about 7.30pm when two men tried to stop the bus,” he said.
“The driver drove into one of the two suspected robbers and rammed past a roadblock.”
Acting Supt Rubiang said the driver then called the police who sent the injured suspected drunkard and robber to the hospital.
“We are still investigating the matter,” he said.
“Since Sisiak is a crime hotspot, drivers using the road are always on the alert.
“The people along that road must teach their children to behave while at home.
“It is a public road and road users pay tax to the Government to access the road. “I commend the policemen and those who responded swiftly to the driver and the suspect.”
Acting Supt Rubiang said police would investigate and prosecute lawbreakers accordingly.
