A CANE-BASKET weaver is earning enough from her baskets that she sustains her family from the income.
Elis Paina, 56, from Southern Highlands, is putting food on the table and helping to support family gatherings with the income from her business.
She started the business 10 years ago in Ialibu where she is from.
After realising that there was a good market for cane baskets in Port Moresby, Paina travelled to the city and continued to design and weave the baskets.
“Ialibu is a small place and I don’t have good customers so I decided to travel to Port Moresby,” Paina said.
“In the city, I’ve come to realise that I have a lot of customers; my cane baskets are in big demand.”
The Ialibu villager began to make good money when she relocated to Port Moresby.
She said she could afford to pay for fees for her kids and family gatherings contributions.
