BUSES travelling along the North Coast Road of Madang have been subjected to armed robberies, police say.
Madang police commander acting Supt Mazuc Rubiang said three armed robberies were reported since Monday along the North Coast Road.
On Tuesday, a bus driver was wounded when he refused to give the key to the bus to the criminals who wanted it. Another bus was held up yesterday morning.
“I want the drivers of the buses to drop off passengers at the designated bus stops,” Supt Rubiang said.
“When you are travelling along those hotspot areas, don’t listen to the passengers and do your own stops. Drop them off at the central bus stop so they can walk to their houses.”
He urged members of the public to assist the drivers in identifying the suspects.
The incidents happened at Mero Bridge, Sagalau, RD and along the North Coast Road.
Some of the attackers pretending to be passengers stop buses along the highway before town and rob the driver and checker of their takings.
They also steal things from the passengers.
