POLICE have advised the business community in Alotau, Milne Bay, to limit business activities at night following the killing of Tommy Maeva Baker.
Milne Bay Chamber of Commerce and Industry vice-president Tasman Silcock told The National that this was because of concerns that remnants of Baker’s Gang would retaliate.
Silcock said businesses had been warned to be wary at least until Baker’s burial.
“Basically, business is as usual but there is no extended trading hours and businesses are closing early,” he said.
“The police have advised that we should limit our activities at night time and to be cautious because the criminals are moving under the cover of darkness.
“The PPC (provincial police commander) recommended to the business community to restrict activities at night. Some businesses such as security, port services, bakeries and hotels have been told not to drop off (their staff) at night.
“They have been told to come up with alternative plans.
“Now that Tommy has been removed, the next command is stepping up to take over.”
He said things had been relatively quiet with heavy police presence in Alotau for several months now.
