CIVIL society organisations (CSOs) and churches are urging MPs to harness the spirit of peace and refrain from fuelling a crisis.
PNG Tribal Foundation director operations Girigi Daroa-Moang said the country was still reeling from the effects of the Covid-19 such as job losses, closures of businesses and increasing law and order issues.
“Leaders in CSOs and churches representing the ordinary people demand from our 111 (MPs) accountability, stability, understanding, restraint and respect for the rule of law,” she said.
“Ordinary people are hard hit by poverty, mental stress and gender-based violence.
“We look for leaders who can provide responsible leadership in trying times. We demand that the current political situation be resolved quickly, peacefully and in accordance with the Constitution.
“We have noted that elected representatives have used people to claim authority for self-interest.”
The CSOs called on MPs to ensure that public funds and assets were not misused.
They urged the Government to ensure the public servants remained neutral and delivered services.
The PNG Tribal Foundation is an international non-religious humanitarian charity with offices in the United States, Papua New Guinea and Australia, specialising in health, education, women’s empowerment and children’s welfare.
