Campaign gives Bullets lessons, confidence

MORATA Bullets say they bowed out of last week’s National Capital District Governor’s Cup quarterfinals with more confidence after strong campaign in the annual rugby league tournament.
Bullets coach Warren Metafo said his young players had learned a lot from the tournament.
“We won all our pool matches,” he told The National.
“We showed what we could do in the tournament.
“In terms of experienced players, we only have lock Junior Manda.
“We’d like to focus on raw talents who have been the centre of our preparations for the tournament.
“Our skipper and hooker Charlie Manu is a strong leader on the field.
“His leadership has been impressive.
“Charlie’s work with our young forwards has been outstanding and while they’re not exactly what you would expect in terms of size, they’re mobile and fast learners.
“We’ve learnt a lot about the game here.
“We can improve on our style through the basics like ball security and completion rates which I think are the most important aspects of the game.”
Metafo commended his players and team management for their efforts throughout the tournament.
“I came across games with teams breaching certain by-laws of the tournament,” he said.
“But I felt that we didn’t need to get technical about who was breaching what.
“We would rather concentrate on how we can develop our game.”
