Central Dabaris, Vipers Academy continue perfect start in Southern Super League

PORT Moresby Vipers Academy and Central Dabaris Development remain the only perfect starters in the inaugural Southern Super League National Gaming Control Board Cup.
The Vipers edged visiting Western Flames 20-19 at Sir John Guise Stadium on Friday while Dabaris beat hosts Rigo Raiders 20-10 in round three at Kwikila Oval on Saturday.
The Vipers scored four tries through Junior Isi Kevau, Josiah Tambua, Charlie Gabriel and Simon Kaman, and Kingstimer Paraia converted two goals.
Flames rake Lohia Arua, Philemon Billy and Dorido George crossed over for tries, with the hooker slotting three conversions and a field goal.
Moresby South Blacks, Laumas and Suburban Ducks have each bagged two wins and are on third, fourth and fifth spots respectively.
The Vipers were given a fright by Flames who were leading 19-14 but Academy fullback Kaman crossed over and Paraia converted the try to seal the win one minute from fulltime.
Flames frustrated the Vipers with great second-half defence and field position.
Arua was named as the man of the match with a personal haul of 11 points from one try, three goals and a field goal.
It was disappointing for Flames to let the win slip off from their grasp in the dying stages.
Meanwhile, the Dabaris — under coach Moses Matuka — proved a point that they could win on the road as they outclassed the Raiders in front of their home crowd.
In round four on Friday, the Dabaris will face Eda Bulldogs and the Vipers will battle Buria Reds.
