Children plant trees to mark environment day

A GROUP of children in Lae, Morobe, planted trees to mark World Environment Day on Sunday after they were told of the benefits to the environment of having trees.Officers from the National Superannuation Fund (Nasfund) office in Lae hosted the children at the Botanical Garden. The children were told of the importance of tree planting, how to plant them and look after them.Climate Change and Development Authority official Debra Sungi told the children, parents and guardians that the climate was changing every time. She said the effects of climate change could be proven by the hot temperatures.“Man-made activities are affecting the climate which affects the ecosystem around us and in order to restore the ecosystem and the climate, there are many things we should do – and one is to plant trees,” Sungi said.
