The National – Friday, December 3, 2010

The people of Chuave are still waiting for their MP, Jim Nomane, to deliver basic services, address social issues and alleviate sufferings we have been experiencing.
The population in Chuave is one of the highest in Chimbu compared to other districts in the province.
And the sad part is the majority of the people are struggling to make ends meet.
We are now beginning to wonder if we will ever get to see tangible development projects.
We want know how the MP has used the millions of kina allocated under the DSIP as there is no tangible development or progress to be seen.
We are not talking about the millions allocated this year but since 2007.
The MP must explain where the millions went to and how they were spent.
Our roads, bridges, aid posts, health centres, DPI, police station, airstrip, post and telecommunication network, rural mobile police station and rural lock ups for upper-lower Siane and East-West Elimbare areas are falling apart.
Aren’t these supposed to be on top of the MP’s priority list?
Chuave is located along the Highlands Highway bordering Eastern Highlands, Western Highlands and Gulf.
The district is handicapped economically due to its remoteness from markets and lack of arable land for agriculture.
While there is a road link from Chuave to Movi and all the way to Unggai-Kamaliki road, the people in the district, especially Siane and East-West Elimbare LLGs, have to travel more than five hours before they get to the nearest service centre.
This has resulted in a high death rate, particularly pregnant mothers encountering difficulties during childbirth.
