The PNG Council of Churches and National Information Communication Technology Authority (NICTA) have successfully completed a SIM Card Registration sensitizing workshop for more than 50 church leaders in Mt Hagen.
PNGCC General Secretary Rev Roger Joseph said the Sensitization Regional Workshop from the 9th – 10th February, 2018 on SIM Card Registration was a great success in opening up more opportunities for mobile users in rural PNG to have their SIM cards registered before April, 30, 2018.
“A total of 54 church leaders from Enga, Hela, Southern Highlands, Chimbu, EHP, WHP and Jiwaka from the seven (7) mainline churches attended and they all agreed to assist with the SIM Card Registration in the remote rural areas.”
“The workshop disseminated information on sim card registration in the rural areas effectively because the turn out in Mt Hagen was very successful,” he said.
Rev Joseph said that Church Network was the best network that can partner with the government and private sector because the church has a very powerful network and linkages in the rural areas and in the case of sim registration the church network can reach many more people than the government and private sector could.
Also in attendance was NICTA’s CEO Charles Punaha who said that this was the first of its kind for the seven (7) provincial church leaders to come together in this regard and NICTA would continue to support the churches financially for in the roll out of this project.
