Church’s train-on squad to break camp next week for Christmas

THE SP Hunters will break camp next Wednesday with players to be sent home for the festive celebrations, according to an official.
Coach Matthew Church said last week that players would be with their families for two weeks before they returned to camp in the second week of next month. He said the squad would be finalised in the New Year before departing for the Gold Coast at the end of next month.
“Obviously, with the team having to relocate again, the players need this valuable time to be with their families and friends, so we’ll send them home for a two-week break,” Church said.
“Once we get them back, they would only be in camp before we leave for Queensland.
“So they will be given some programmes on what they must do when they are away for Christmas.
“There are a lot of things happening at this time of the year, but we want them to come back fit and hit the ground running.”
Meanwhile, the train-on squad completed their fourth week of training at the Oil Search National Football Stadium in Port Moresby last Thursday.
“I told them to get off the field because it was raining, but the players wanted to stay and train,” Church said.
“They enjoyed the session. You get to play in different conditions.”
