City claim Toti Cup in shootout

CITY United claimed back-to-back titles in the Lae Biscuit Company sponsored Toti Cup Invitational soccer tournament after beating PS United 5-4 in a penalty shootout yesterday at Lae Football Association Park.
City and PS United won their semifinals against Markham Marafri and Sobou respectively also through penalty shootouts.
The title decider started slowly owing to a little fatigue but as the game wore on both sides started to lift the intensity of their efforts.
PS United’s Jason Farrock, Dobson Noi, and Nathan Loi kept the pressure on City’s defence but could not find the accuracy required to score.
Some of that was down to City’s defence manned by Philip Steven, Kepas Kamen, Gabby Yanum and captain Lui Kataka.
Both teams featured National Soccer League talent and had an even share of possession and opportunities but such was the defence and desperation leaving a goal-less game in regulation time.
Extra time also proved fruitless for both sides and proceedings graduated to a penalty shootout where City goalkeeper Vagi Koniel became the hero after he managed one save.

  • Thank you TOTI (Lae Biscuit Comapny for hosting the tournament and providing the opportunity for the upcoming talents. Just a concern that still not all players with special talents have the opportunity to attract attention of the selectors hence suggest that the TOTI Selectors and other NSL team selectors to visit local premiere clubs registered to LFA, MFA and Lahi to do scouting and then organize friendly games between the scouted to screen until the very best players are selected. This is my suggested alternative to selecting the best hidden talented. The bias selection is also avoided.

    Thank you TOTI.
