PORT Moresby Rugby League proved too strong for neighbours Moresby South beating them 26-10 in the Southern Confederate Under-20 trial match at the National Football Stadium last Sunday.
PRL were had too much class for the enthusiastic Souths side.
The representative fixture saw some of the best up and coming talents from the city’s two premier leagues with 40 young women squaring off at the NFS.
This was not about winning but to identify potential talents to represent the Southern region and the PNG Orchids.
Southern Confederate director Gwaibo Mairi said the ID programme was used to identify women under 20 years to be future representatives for the region and the national team.
Mairi said, since PNGRFL did not have the pathway programme for women players, his confederate was taking the initiative to focus on early preparation and grooming of the playing stocks.
“We’ve realised that some of our senior and elite players are aging and needed to be replaced by the next group of players for the Southern region trials and the national championships.
“Our competition is an open division with players under 20 playing against adults so this exhibition helped us identify the potential that is out there,” Mairi said.
